Irish Privacy Ruling Portends Dark DMA Clouds

Summary

The Irish Data Protection Commission’s (DPC) decision levying a $400 million fine on Meta Platform (META) and required changes to obtaining consent for advertising outside of the basic terms of service is bad enough on its own, but we believe this also portends an ominous aggressive posture by the EU as the initial implementation steps for the 2024 launch of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) commence this year.
