Trucking: Mixed Reactions to Lower Diesel Prices

Summary

In 2022, diesel prices were extremely high at an average price of $4.98 per gallon. Some firms parlayed this into margin expansion using higher fuel surcharges. Other firms saw margin contraction despite higher fuel surcharges. The tide has turned in 2023, and diesel prices are falling (and will probably fall further), translating to lower fuel surcharges.
